We have to learn to love the little people who came before us, and how to love them in the most meaningful way possible. I think this is true for all of us, but I think that for parents, it is especially true until we ourselves are grown up.
In the end, we have to stop being afraid of them, and embrace them. We have to stop being afraid that they will do things that we don’t want them to do or are too young to understand, and embrace them as our kids. We have to stop being afraid of their emotions, of being upset or mad when they do something wrong, or of being afraid that they might hurt us or someone else.

I know it may seem counterintuitive, but you can. You can take steps to keep your kids away from you. You can make a big deal about keeping them away from you. You can tell them that they are not allowed out of your sight or out of your sight, and that they need to stay in your space. You can tell them that it is unhealthy for them to be out in the world at all.
The biggest issue of all is we tend to get too anxious and afraid of things. When we see a person with no memory in a park or when someone we know disappears, we fear it. To be able to feel the love of someone is to be able to feel the fear of them disappearing. The fear of them being gone.
You can hide them from yourself, but you can’t hide from the fact that they’re all around you. That they’re there. Now that they are, they are going to be gone, whether you think they’re here or not. They can haunt you.
